Welcome to Module Two

This module focuses on the very first part of the Heroic Journey – the Unconscious Preparation. This phase, while perhaps less dramatic than others, is critical—as it is here that the foundation for relationships, both with oneself and others, as well as decision making and preferences, is laid. So, when we think about birth preparation, if we don’t start here, it’s as if we’re joining a movie half way through.

Thus, this module is about learning HOW to meet your clients/class members WHERE they are in the moment; learning HOW to guide them to begin to unpack the satchel(s) they’ve been carrying all their lives, so that they can gain new perspectives and options.

Highlights: Module 2

  • Inanna and Unconscious Preparation

  • Speaking, Listening, and Learning Modalities

  • Interview Home Practice

  • First Birth Story process

  • Guidelines or Leading Birth Art

  • Demonstrate the ability to ask questions of pregnant people that illuminate their conditioning and unconscious preparation for birth.

  • Reflect on client responses without judgment and/or a need to change anything.

  • Explain the beginning stage of a Heroic Journey and how it relates to people in their childbearing year.

  • Guide parents in exploring their First Birth Story and help them to uncover old beliefs, rules, and agreements about birth.

  • Understand ways to use the labyrinth as a metaphor for birth and guide parents in the Labyrinth process.

For your reference and as a reminder:

Each module will begin with an audio clip of a piece of the Great-Story of Inanna; it will be the piece of the story that relates to the particular phase of the Heroic Journey that is to be excavated during that module. Start there.

Then, move on to the main teaching video(s), reading assignments, Home-practice instructions and the journal prompts.

Each module will also have a Birth Justice inquiry and resources.

There will be additional instructional videos/audios, and what we call “Maps”, which are the how-to’s- the guidance in how to bring the practices you’re learning to the parents you work with – in each module as well. The Maps should be studied before diving into the Home Practices - they are like the instruction manual!
