Pam Adams
she/they
Pam is a queer, Black birth doula, certified childbirth educator, and Birthing from Within Assistant Facilitator. They first found BfW in 2018, while pregnant with their first child and found the approach simultaneously: pragmatic, trauma-informed, juicy, ceremonial, and honestly fun (gotta love some chalk pastels). They were so relieved to acknowledge the unknowable, uncontrollable mystery of it all and have some tools to apply if things didn’t go their way, other than panic and shame.
They began training with BfW as a doula and mentor in 2019 and as a facilitator in 2022. During that time, they have only fallen more in love with the community, the philosophy, and the methodologies we use. The BfW approach has been so beautifully applicable not only to birth work but also to life generally, whether that is parenting, navigating personal transitions, or being able to show up and be present for themself and loved ones experiencing loss. One thing that really excites them about the role as a facilitator is that in addition to initiating other birth workers into the BfW philosophy and methodology, we have the opportunity to engage those broader applications of BfW as they enter a new phase of their work.
When they’re not doing birth work, they love making weird art, reading witchy fiction, and riding their bike through the woods. They live in Baltimore, MD with their husband and two wild, small children.
