Birth and body workers can feel disconnected and insecure in their work. Touch From Within offers creativity and nourishment for their practice so they can serve clients with authenticity and clarity.

To be a human being is to be a social being, and physical touch is an integral part of this social human experience. Study after study has shown that touch is as necessary a nutrient to an infant, child, adolescent, adult, and elder as food and water.

Some people wonder if their touch might harm the pregnant client or their baby, and yet at the same time they feel drawn to offering this sacred support.

I believe that these two polar energies speak to much of the contradiction, myth, paradox, and unknown in this world of prenatal touch and massage. And it is only with embracing this paradox, this conflict, that we are able to participate as part of the social and physical support structure of a pregnant person in our culture. That also means that the standards, (industrial, organizational, and personal), of what constitutes “safe” prenatal massage and what is contraindicated, will and must change and develop.

It can be overwhelming to search through books or online about what is ok and what is not ok to do during prenatal massage. So much contradiction exists. We can build an evidence-informed (rather than evidence-based) practice, and also balance that with an intuitive sense of what each moment in a session needs. I believe this balanced approach will serve our clients well.

Touch From Within offers a map to the soul-work of the practitioner- opening up new pathways of growth and deep introspection that clear the way for authentic presence, and for modeling the same to the pregnant people we work with.
